Après sa projection animée monumentaleulitsuak | marée montante | rising tide sur la façade du Musée des beaux-arts de Montréal en 2024–2025, Glenn Gear présente une nouvelle œuvre de projection publique qui prolonge son intérêt pour les motifs kaléidoscopiques et les portails. Ces portails représentent un seuil vers un autre temps ou un autre espace, et dans l’œuvre de Gear, ils portent la promesse d’un avenir Inuit transformateur. Gear a déclaré à propos de ses œuvres d’art publiques : « J’espère intriguer et émerveiller, et susciter chez les spectateurs des interrogations plus profondes sur l’environnement urbain, l’interconnexion et la façon dont les espaces publics peuvent être investis par l’art autochtone.»
Following his monumental animated projection ulitsuak | marée montante | rising tide on the facade of the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts in 2024–2025, Glenn Gear presents a new public projection work furthering his longstanding interest in kaleidoscopic patterns and portals. Portals represent a threshold to another time or space, and in Gear’s work they offer the promise of a transformative Inuit future. Gear has said about his public artworks, “My hope is to intrigue and delight, even if only partially glimpsed, and spark deeper questions in viewers about the urban environment, interconnection and how public spaces can be activated by Indigenous artwork.”
